Africa Health Watch – Perspectives to Transform Health in Africa

Public health in Africa is at a defining moment. Shifting global priorities, declining overseas development , and growing domestic pressures are reshaping how African countries address long-standing challenges in health financing, governance, and service delivery. This moment calls for open, solutions-driven dialogue, and they require a trusted, credible, and locally grounded platform to help lead it.

Africa Health Watch exists to meet that need.

We are a pan-African public health media and advocacy platform committed to advancing informed dialogue, amplifying African-led solutions, and promoting accountable health systems. Our mission is to ensure that the people closest to Africa’s health challenges are shaping the narrative, setting priorities, and driving the conversation.

Why We Exist

Across the continent, health systems face common challenges, underinvestment in primary care, limited access to essential services, uneven adoption of locally owned innovations, and gaps in accountability. While, many platforms share valuable perspectives from outside the region, Africa Health Watch complements these by offering an African-led lens grounded in lived experiences and local expertise. We believe that solutions are stronger when they are informed by the voices of those who live and work closest to the challenges.

What We Do

We tell evidence-based stories that go beyond the headlines, providing context and insights for action. Each story highlights the local setting, explores the response, and explains why it matters to the rest of the continent, enabling cross-country learning and informing policy and actionable insights for advocates and practitioners.

Our work will focus on critical cross-border health priorities, including maternal health, health financing, immunisation, climate-health risks, and health security, areas where shared learning and regional collaboration can accelerate impact.

We will collaborate with African-led organisations, research institutions, and advocacy groups to co-create content, spark conversations, and connect solutions.

Africa Health Watch builds on the legacy of Nigeria Health Watch, a trusted voice in strategic health communication and advocacy since 2007.

Africa Health Watch is an initiative of the Health Watch Foundation.
